Ok. I stand corrected w.r.t. AP TN.
In AP, SCR covers more than 80% of the state. SR has very few kms upto the first junction (Renigunta side 30 kms or Gudur side 60 kms). Similarly SWR has some 80 kms of AP route in Dharmavaram and around 30 kms near Kuppam). These are unavoidable and are done due to practical reasoning. Please note SR and SWR don't control any big cities in AP.

However, because of SWR, Hosur and Dharmapuri are deprived of their state HQ connectivity. Due to ECoR, Vizag has lot of problems inspite of ECoR having a division HQ there (Waltair division).
Take the case of Karnataka:
Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Shivamogga, Davanagere under SWR. This zone covers just half the state.
Mangalore under SR: Just 30 kms, but create lot of issues.
Coastal karnataka under KR: A zone which does not own any train but controls Some 350 kms. No big benefit for Karnataka. This line just acts as a path for Kerala Maharashtra traffic.
Kalaburagi under CR: Around 75 Kms. No use to Kalaburagi. Not even a single originating train from KLBG to anywhere in the state.
Raichur, Bidar under SCR: Nearly 300 kms, but no originating train from Bidar/ Raichur to anywhere in Karnataka by SCR.
As you see, big cities of Kalaburagi, Mangalore, Udupi, Bidar, Raichur are deprived of intra state connection due to presence of CR, SR KR and SCR. It would be better to reallocate CR area to SCR. Same way reallocate SR and KR areas TO SWR. So, Karnataka will have 2 zones.
