The scheme also aims to improve station buildings, integrate stations with surrounding urban areas, provide multimodal connectivity, ensure accessibility for differently-abled individuals, implement eco-friendly practices, create rooftop plazas if necessary, and transform stations into city centers. The plan is being implemented across 1,350 stations nationwide, including 157 in Uttar Pradesh. The Northeast Railway is undergoing a major redevelopment of 58 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, at a cost of approximately INR 2,000 crore. This includes station facades, circulation areas, waiting halls, facilities for differently-abled people, restrooms, lifts/escalators (as needed), wider foot over bridges (FOBs), parking, and eco-friendly buildings with green energy. The plan also includes better passenger information systems, executive lounges, and international standard signage. The Varanasi division alone has 19 stations undergoing this redevelopment, which includes stations like Varanasi City, Banaras, Ballia, Azamgarh, Deoria Sadar, Mau, Siwan, Belthara Road, Ghazipur City, Salempur, Kaptanganj, Bhatni, Marwa, Suramanganpur, Thawe, Chhapra, Ekma, Masrakh, and Khorasan Road.
